Birds Flowers & Elephants by Wijit Apichartkriengkrai

Birds Flowers & Elephants
by Wijit Apichartkriengkrai
on February 20 - March 20, 2010
at Surapon Gallery

Thai identity in artistic work. on one side, can be characterized by forms, contents, or even texture and color. That is Thai identity in tangible and concrete nature. On the other side, we can perceive that Thai identity through emotional feelings, which the work has expressed toword us. The extent of feelings can vary in degrees. And there is no right or wrong because a work of art will relay message from both side as mentioned. They support each other and give rise to impression to the audience.
All works by Wijit Apichatkriengkrai contribute varieties of forms, thoughts, and spirit of being Thai in art creation throughout the 20 years of my artistic career.

Different, but Same by Korean Artists

Different, but Same   Art Exhibition by Korean Artists
Curator : Cho seung ki
Co- curator : Jakraphun Thanateeranon

Venue : Artery Art Gallery

919/1 The Silom Galleria Building,

(Unit B09) B1 Fl., Silom Rd., Bangkok

10500 Thailand

Period : Febuary 22- March 5, 2010

First exchange exhibition between Korea and Thailand, ’Different, but Same,’ emerges as an attempt by young artists of Korea, who does not share anything common geographically and in terms of belonging genres. This can be interpreted as an intention to escape local boundary. From painterly works to sculpture, installation art, media art, etc, each artist has built upon their own individuality and brilliant directorship, adding pace to globalization. The exhibition will provide an opportunity to see ways in which young artists of Korea make sense of and confront speed of the internet, mass production and outflow of information, inter subjective sensibility of media, and chaos of images thrown out from various perspectives.

International biennale unfolding like planned events and the spectacular scale of the exhibition reminding one of Hollywood movies. Ever since oriental art has opened itself to the world, China has positioned itself firm as a first-mover and Korean art market is experience an unexpected rapid growth. Such changes were followed by global economic downturn. In period of many dramatic changes, what can be defined as the identity of today’s young Korean artists?

I believe this exhibition will provide an opportunity to take a glance at how art is being conceived and experienced in Asia, initiating a global discussion on the subject, while not losing Korean character from many different angles. I also look forward to seeing new paradigm to guide art in Asia through maintaining constructive relationship with artists from Thailand.

Prism Pichet by Klunchun and Kornkrit Jianpinidnan

100 Tonson Gallery presents spectacular collaboration between 2 outstanding artists, Pichet Klunchun and Kornkrit Jianpinidnan, “ Prism”  curated by Thanavi Chotpradit.
Known and seen internationally, more often than in Thailand, the performance of Pichet will be,for the first time, shown in a visual art space, right downtown in the city of Bangkok.
100 Tonson Gallery is a multifaceted art space. Its prism of dimensions is expressed through the diversity of artistic activities that takes place inside the gallery. This is the show where space emerges from disciplinary encounter (performing arts and visual arts) and the parallel narratives. With his photograph and installation, Kornkrit Jianpinidnan’s “The House No.1” transforms 100 Tonson Gallery into a space in-between the world of Thai traditional literature and the world of reality for Pichet Klunchun to perform “Ganesh.” Photographs will be revived through Pichet’s performance while the performing takes place in the space created by Kornkrit.

In the obscurity of the space-in-between, there is not only a story of Ganesh losing his trunk, but also the fragments of the political situation we are facing in our present society.

“Ganesh”, the performance will be opened 10 rounds (approximately 1 hour each). There will be only 40 seats in each show, please reserve ticket in advance to avoid disappointment. Suffering by Amrit Chusuwan

"Suffering"  By Amrit Chusuwan

From February 25th to March 28th, 2010 (Opening reception on February 25th, 2010: 6.30 PM)
At DOB Hualamphong Gallery

The Lord Buddha’s teaching that “Suffering is one of the Four Noble Truths” is the inspiration of Amrit Chusuwan’s latest art exhibition “Suffering”. Amrit; well-known in both Thai and International art society, applies the variety of medium as well as materials such as found object, ready-made object, light box, letters, photos, motion pictures and so on to impart the profound ideas of Buddhism about suffering and its origin, misery, impurities, etc. These religious teachings are surprisingly and finely blended with the contemporary art and its various ways of presentation which the artist succeeds to pass on his ideas and mesmerized the audience by his constructive process of thinking.
