Opening on September 7, the exhibition, which will also take place at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and at the Art Gallery, Silpakorn University, Sanam Chand Palace campus in Nakhon Pathom, features 21 winners of the 56th National Art Competition, together with 109 exquisite entries in four categories: painting, graphic print, sculpture and mixed media.
This is a chance to view some of His Majesty the King's works of art which will be on display at the event.
Altogether 243 artists participated in the competition, with a total of 405 entries in the four categories.
Atthaporn Nimmalaikaew’s work wins a silver award at the National Art Exhibition.
Suporn Kaewda grabbed the gold medal, with 150,000 baht cash prize, in the painting category with his Birth and Demise 6, while four artists were awarded with silver; and another four with bronze medals.
There are no gold award winners for the sculpture, graphic prints or mixed media categories. The silver medal in the sculpture category went to Kitmethee Pipatdecha's State of Conflict and Sitthikorn Khaosa-ard's Landscape of Life, while Anond Sangworndee's Broken No. 1 was awarded with a silver medal in the graphic prints category and Chaidanai Siriwong was silver medallist in the mixed media category.
The event's sponsors, Krung Thai Bank and the Office of Contemporary Art, also have their own awards and cash prizes for contemporary art works.
The 56th National Exhibition of Art 2010
After the show in Bangkok and Nakhon Pathom, the exhibition will move to university art galleries in six provinces: November 4 to 23 at Chiang Mai University's Art and Culture Centre; December 1 to 24 at Khon Kaen University's Art Centre; January 6 to 26 at Maha Sarakham University's Champasri Art Centre, Thaksin University's Art Centre in Songkhla; March 4 to 26 at the Southern Region Art Centre, Prince of Songkhla University, Pattani campus; and June 1 to 10 at the Contemporary Art Centre, Burapha University in Chon Buri.
Meanwhile, the 27th Young Artists Exhibition will be held at the Art and Culture Centre of Silpakorn University, Sanam Chand Palace, on September 9. Apart from the winners, about 100 outstanding artworks by 90 young artists, those aged 16 to 25 years old, will be on show.
Anise Naksevi's Remaining People No. 2 was awarded with the Silpa Bhirasri gold medal prize.
The 56th National Art Exhibition will open on September 7 at the National Gallery on Chao Fa Road, at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre in Pathumwan and at the Art Gallery, Silpakorn University, Sanam Chand Palace campus, in Nakhon Pathom. It remains on view at the National Gallery until September 30; at the Art Gallery, Silpakorn University, until October 24; and the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre Until October 31.
