วันว่าง(เปล่า)_Days of (Endless) Meaninglessness

Upcoming : วันว่าง(เปล่า)_Days of (Endless) Meaninglessness
by Phaptawan Suwannakudt on 16 Oct 2014 - 04 Jan 2015

100 Tonson Gallery is pleased to conclude the year 2014 with its final exhibition “Days of (Endless) Meaninglessness” by Sydney-based Thai contemporary artist Phaptawan Suwankudt, whose works has been exhibited across the globe over decades of experience. Trained as a mural painter, Phaptawan presented her contemporary works in exhibition “Locution-Re-Location” here in 100 Tonson Gallery in 2011. Apart from being active in the organization of women’s art in Thailand, Phaptawan was featured in 18th Biennale of Sydney, along with  various group exhibitions in New York, Melbourne and many more.

“Days of (endless) Meaninglessness” explores the underlying layers of content in a set of photograph she took during her return to her hometown in Bangkok, amidst the country’s political turmoil of late 2013 to early 2014. Selected photographs are cropped and re-created on canvases with a re-imagined color selection. Despite being chronologically ordered to the date the photos were taken, the works are not meant to depict what happened on that day but an imagined emotional resonance.

The exhibition consists of 5 sets of acrylic on canvas triptychs, and will be on view

at 100 Tonson Gallery from 16 October 2014 – 4 January 2015

Prism Pichet by Klunchun and Kornkrit Jianpinidnan

100 Tonson Gallery presents spectacular collaboration between 2 outstanding artists, Pichet Klunchun and Kornkrit Jianpinidnan, “ Prism”  curated by Thanavi Chotpradit.
Known and seen internationally, more often than in Thailand, the performance of Pichet will be,for the first time, shown in a visual art space, right downtown in the city of Bangkok.
100 Tonson Gallery is a multifaceted art space. Its prism of dimensions is expressed through the diversity of artistic activities that takes place inside the gallery. This is the show where space emerges from disciplinary encounter (performing arts and visual arts) and the parallel narratives. With his photograph and installation, Kornkrit Jianpinidnan’s “The House No.1” transforms 100 Tonson Gallery into a space in-between the world of Thai traditional literature and the world of reality for Pichet Klunchun to perform “Ganesh.” Photographs will be revived through Pichet’s performance while the performing takes place in the space created by Kornkrit.

In the obscurity of the space-in-between, there is not only a story of Ganesh losing his trunk, but also the fragments of the political situation we are facing in our present society.

“Ganesh”, the performance will be opened 10 rounds (approximately 1 hour each). There will be only 40 seats in each show, please reserve ticket in advance to avoid disappointment. Living Room curated by Thanavi Chotpradit (2nd post)

100 Tonson Gallery is pleased to invite you to the opening reception of  “Living Room”, visual and sound installation exhibition by Jiradej and Prinda Setabundhu,  Anothai Nitibhon,  Kata Sangkae, curated by Thanavi Chotpradit,  on Thursday January 21, 2010 at 7 pm.

This is the show that showcasing what Thanavi has earned from her Master Degree in Art History at Leiden University, the Netherland. As part of the grants by 100 Tonson Gallery, this is the contribution by the curator.

How could one make the space perceivable? Even the space exists when having the edge identified (by the wall, for instance), it is not precisely to make us sense the space itself. Beyond knowing the size of the space we are being in, how can we “feel” it? How can we conceive the existence of the intangible?

These questions around the existence of the space are the questions of representation and perception. It is all about the “in-between” absence and presence. If art makes the invisible visible and music makes the non-audible audible, the colorless-mute space, the air, may come into being by the help of these medium. Inspired by Alvin Lucier’s ‘I’m sitting in a room,’ Jiradej and Prinda Setabundhu (composer, visual artist), Anothai Nitibhon (composer), and Kata Sangkae (visual artist) work together in ‘Living Room,’ the collaborative project that aims to make existence of space perceivable. As a site specific, visual and sound installation, 100 Tonson Gallery will be transformed into the “Living Room,” the room that has a live, a heart beating and a breath taking.

Jiradej and Anothai will compose new sound for the Living Room while Prinda and Kata will present their newly created sculptures.

The exhibition will be on view from January 21 – February 28, 2010
(Gallery will be closed on Jan 30-31.)
