SOS : Sounding Out Creativity

Following last year’s success, Bangkok University Gallery is excited to bring you the second dose of an exhibition by the faculty of School of Fine and Applied Arts at Bangkok University, titled “SOS”.

SOS is widely known as a distress signal, seeking for immediate assistance. Originated as a Morse code, SOS is sometimes employed through visual displays where one must battle with numerous obstacles in order to create an effecti...ve signal to obtain help. Even though no one is stranded on a deserted island, still, the faculty of School of Fine and Applied Arts creatively builds signals through different mediums to communicate - sharing stories thoughts and ideas - with the public. Rather than hoping to be rescued, the faculty is waiting to be discovered.

“SOS” is on display from 29 November – 24 December 2010. The opening reception is on Thursday 9 December 2010, 6.00 PM at BU International College and Bangkok University Gallery Building (Building 7), City Campus.

Representation | Representation by German photography

Photo Exhibition : Presentation | Representation
by German photography
on June14 - July 16, 2010
at Bangkok University Gallery, Rangsit Campus, Bangkok

In Germany, a lively and heterogeneous photography scene has recently emerged, one which cannot be said to stem from any single educational institution or region or be assigned to any predominant style. The exhibition "presentation | representation" portrays ten positions in contemporary German photography.

At the moment, photography is in a phase of transition from analogue to digital medium. With the technical changes comes a new understanding of both the medium itself and of the credibility that the medium still implies. The photographers selected for this show reflect the altered situation through their consciously subjective construction of authenticity

Brand New by Alongkorn Sriprasert and Itsaret Sutthisiri

Bangkok University and the Art Center at Chulalongkorn University with support from Office of Contemporary Art And Culture, Ministry Of Culture would like to invite you all to Brand New 2010's first exhibition by Alongkorn Sriprasert and Itsaret Sutthisiri.

Shortlisted for this year's Brand New, Alongkorn and Itsaret will present their past and most recent photography works at the Art Center, Chulalongkorn University. Fascinated by the ideas of memories and places, Alongkorn uses his washed out images to tell a story of the disappearance of places he grew up with. Similar to Alongkorn's works, Itsaret's works are concerned with places and a sense of belonging. Itsaret's works show a contrast between a struggling city life and a simple country life.

Brand New 2010 by Alongkorn Sriprasert and Itsaret Sutthisiri is on view from 31 May to 26 June 2010 at the Art Center, Chulalongkorn University. The opening reception is on Thursday, 3 June 2010, 2.00 pm at 7th Fl of the Art Center.

Unhiddenness by Surat Osathanugrah

Photography Exhibition
In this upcoming month, Bangkok University Gallery and 2902 Gallery, Singapore with support from The Royal Photographic Society of Thailand under The Royal Patronage of H.M. The King are proud to present “Unhiddenness” by Police Captain Surat Osathanugrah. Even though he is publicly known for his successful careers as a business professional, an educator, or a politician, Surat is lesser known as a highly dedicated photographer.

“Unhiddenness” sets to unveil Surat’s achievement as a contemporary photographer. Apart from the fact that the majority of the photos in this exhibition have not been selected and presented anywhere before, the selection process for this exhibition is none like other. Focusing on the theme of objects, “Unhiddenness” differentiates itself from the previous exhibitions that centered on the theme of people, pets, etc. To avoid the repetitiveness, the exhibition’s curator, Ark Fongsmut, has decidedly shifted the attention onto the objects in the photos. Because everyday’s objects and their impressions are considered socially irrelevant, they are often neglected and destined to be forgotten and disappeared over time. The curator presents the concept of the unnoticeable through unusual perspectives in the photos to depict a story that has no relation to a place and time.

“Unhiddeness” is on display from 13 March – 24 April 2010. The opening reception is on Saturday, 13 March 2010, 6.00 PM at BU International College and Bangkok University Gallery Building (Building 7), City Campus.
