100 Tonson Gallery is pleased to conclude the year 2014 with its final exhibition “Days of (Endless) Meaninglessness” by Sydney-based Thai contemporary artist Phaptawan Suwankudt, whose works has been exhibited across the globe over decades of experience. Trained as a mural painter, Phaptawan presented her contemporary works in exhibition “Locution-Re-Location” here in 100 Tonson Gallery in 2011. Apart from being active in the organization of women’s art in Thailand, Phaptawan was featured in 18th Biennale of Sydney, along with  various group exhibitions in New York, Melbourne and many more.

 “Days of (endless) Meaninglessness” explores the underlying layers of content in a set of photograph she took during her return to her hometown in Bangkok, amidst the country’s political turmoil of late 2013 to early 2014. Selected photographs are cropped and re-created on canvases with a re-imagined color selection. Despite being chronologically ordered to the date the photos were taken, the works are not meant to depict what happened on that day but an imagined emotional resonance.

The exhibition consists of 5 sets of acrylic on canvas triptychs, and will be on view

at 100 Tonson Gallery from 16 October 2014 – 4 January 2015

100 Tonson Gallery proudly presents “Locution-(re)-locations...” the solo exhibition by Phaptawan Suwannakudt, Thai artist based in Sydney, Australia, who creates several artworks in various cultural spaces. This exhibition will offer the concept of the outsider who lives in the different places which hard to carry on the role of being. The exhibition will be on view from 19 May – 10 July, 2011.



Phaptawan Suwannakudt graduated from Silpakorn University, Thailand with a degree in English and German and completed her MVA degree at Sydney College of the Arts, The University of Sydney. She has worked extensively on several full-scale temple schemes and hotel decoration projects in Thailand during 1980s to 1990s. Phaptawan has applied her ideas, practices from experiences and gain the influences and talent from her father. She comes back to her hometown to show selected artworks which have been created during 7 years (the second half of her staying in Sydney for 14 years). Several paintings and object installation will be shown in this exhibition.

100 Tonson Gallery and Japan Foundation cordially present SPIRITUTAINMENT, a group exhibition that includes artists of different nationals and religious backgrounds, curated by Prabda Yoon, raising the question of entertainment’s role in religious traditions.

The exhibition invites the artists to contemplate the relationship between religion and entertainment, as these two subjects are considered incompatible in some religious beliefs, while the facts, both historical and contemporary, show that entertainment does play a big role in religious practices. The artists then presents their reaction through newly created works. Artists in this show will be Prabda Yoon, Pasut Kranrattasuit, , May-T Noyjinda, Sakareeya Amataya, , Krit Ngamsom, Peggy Wauters, Kohei Nawa, and Mai Miyake.

Moreover, there will be a special talk on the history of the religion/entertainment relationship by Thanes Wongyanawa, a unique Thai scholar in political science and cultural studies and also a assistant professor at Facualty of Political Science, Thammasat universiry, on the opening day ( 24 March).

To welcome the year of the Rabbit 2011, 100 Tonson Gallery proudly presents Yuree Kensaku’s brand new solo show “Shortcut to Melancholy Hill”. She is an outstanding and distinguished young Japanese-Thai artist. This time, we are presenting her solo show in town with her signature quirkiness on paintings by the use of vivid colors, often employed to create a hidden message. She always collects and records what she feels, sees, and experiences by blending her imagination to her works.

This exhibition will tell us about the changing surroundings and also politic liberty which led everything to violence and depression. It seems that we cannot find the feeling of security in anywhere. The artist would like to discover a best shortcut for escapade, but it’s rarely hard to find.

In 2010, Yuree has launched various works by participation with local and international activities such as Big Mountain music festival 2010, “For” wall painting exhibition at Bangkok Art and Culture Center, Bangkok, Thailand and the special illustration for music video of a song titled Pleng Pry by Pry & May-T Project (collaboration with Thai animator Yongvit Santanaphanich). Moreover, Yuree has also shown her large paintings as one of the selected 10 participants in Kuandu Biennale 2010, Taipei, Taiwan.

Artist’s profile : Yuree Kensaku
Born in 1979 in Bangkok, After graduating from the Department of Visual Arts in Bangkok University in 2002, her works were presented in several solo and group exhibitions including the 2003 Brand New at the Art Gallery, Bangkok University, Bangkok, 108 Paths to Vanity in 2004 at 100 Tonson Gallery, Bangkok, One On Other, a workshop and exhibition at About Studio/ About Cafe, Bangkok, in 2005, and created big murals in “FOR” Wall Painting Showcase by groups of Thai graphic designers and artists at Bangkok Art and Culture Center, Bangkok, Thailand in 2010, and In 2007 Kensaku has presented her solo exhibition Love in platinum Frame at the Art Center, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, as well as being an artist in residency and held solo show The Adventure of Momotaro Girl at the Yokohama Museum of Art, Yokohama, Japan. Kensaku is due to hold another solo show, titled Same Place While The Clock’s Hands Pace, exhibiting brand new works at Gallery Ver, an artist run space, in Bangkok Thailand after a curatorial request by Rirkrit Tiravanija. In 2009, Yuree has held 3 solo exhibitions locally and internationally, Bejing China, Taipei Taiwan, and Bangkok, Thailand. Yuree is one of selected 10 artists participates in Kuandu Biennale 2010, Taipei, Taiwan.

Hybrid Technology by Porntaweesak Rimsakul
100 Tonson Gallery proudly presents the last exhibition of this year 2010 “Hybrid Technology” by Porntaweesak Rimsakul, who creates art for fun. He was distant since the last solo show ‘Porntaweesak’s exhibition’ in 2006 that leaded him to participate in several international exhibition such as, ATTITUDE 2007, The Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto, Japan and the only Thai Artist who shown in 10th International Istanbul Biennial, Turkey in 2007. The audiences are looking forward to see his next show.



Porntaweesak Rimsakul creates contemporary objects, focusing on interaction between art and audiences, and this project is under concept of daily life energy. Especially, electric energy which people use them for convenience and easiness. Most of people think about usability whereas they ignore process and methods. Several new created-objects touch upon the deep thinking of energy will be selected to show at 100 Tonson Gallery from Dec 16, 2010 – Jan 23, 2011.

Artist Profiles:
Porntaweesak Rimsakul

Born in 1979 in Udonthani, northern Thailand. Graduating from the Department of Visual Arts in Bangkok University in 2002, and a Master's degree in Painting from Silapakorn University 2005, Rimsakul’s works have been presented at many international art exhibitions. These include the 2005 Actes de Fe i de Generositat, a performance with Peter Baren at La Bisbal d'Empordà & Barcelona in Spain, T1 Torino Triennale Tremusei at Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea, Rivoli, Turin, Italy, and Politics of Fun at Haus Der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin, Germany (travelling to Austria and Japan). In September-October 2006, his works were exhibited at Soi Project 2006 at the Saint–Sulpice, Paris, in early 2007 Rimsakul participated in the group show All About Laughter at the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, ZKM: Thermocline of Art, Asian New Waves at ZKM in Germany, and ATTITUDE 2007 at the Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto, Japan. Moreover being the only Thai artist in the 10th International Istanbul Biennial, Turkey, 2007. Rimsakul participates in Busan Biennale, Korea and Kuandu Biennale, Taiwan 2008. and Fluid Zones Jakarta Biennale, Indonesia 2009.

100 Tonson Gallery presents Thanet Awsinsiri with the latest exhibition “Heaven Lust” under the core concept of admiration and appreciation of female figures. He believes that human body is the center of livelihood and part of human’s mind. This belief is different from the social cultivation which notifies body as mother of bad lust. Thanet invites us to see in the several points of views by being open-minded. He paints naked-female in the sense of praise and it leads to another new experience of aesthetics.

This project is represented by several Medias and its goals to express opinions about the social-participation in our weakness country, hold wishes and expectations which are never rise.

Sakarin Krue-on is one of the top Thai artists who always participate in the core group shows or events in local and international. Recently, he has been exhibiting his site-specific installation, Temple which was once part of Documenta12, in “Murals” exhibition at Joan Miro Foundation, Barcelona, Spain.

This mixed-media exhibition will show video art, title’s movie is ‘Manorah and Best Friends of the Snake’, consist of paintings, photographs, and objects from the video.

100 Tonson Gallery is pleased to invite you to the opening reception of the first solo show in the home country of the world re-known contemporary Thai artist, Rirkrit Tiravanija. Exhibition titled (who’s afraid of red, yellow, and green) on Thursday August 5th, 2010 at 7 pm.

Rirkrit Tiravanija, undoubtedly the most visible landmark of today’s Thai contemporary artists in the world-stage, was born in 1961 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, grown up in many countries and has taken Thailand’s northern province of Chiangmai as a base in the past several years. Since the early 1990s he has explored the social role of the artist and has fostered interactivity with his audience. He has cooked and served food to gallery-goers, set up a recording studio in a museum, reconstructed his apartment inside an exhibition space, corresponded via the internet while on an American road trip with Thai students, and provided opportunities for numerous other everyday activities to occur within art spaces.

During the exhibition, the artist will be cooking and offering his signature creation in the art space, to the viewers and audience and will at the same time orchestrate interactions between artist, art, and the audience in the combination of “Art and Daily life”. The gallery’s walls will be a platform for expressions of various (and can be contradicting) thoughts and beliefs through charred drawings and graffiti during this one month period.

The exhibitions and interactions are throughout the opening hours 11 am- 7 pm of every Thursday-Sunday of August until the last day of Sunday August 29th, 2010.

Artist Profiles:
Rirkrit Tiravanija has transformed the constant movement and cultural interaction of his own life into an engaged conceptual art practice. Born in Buenos Aires in 1961 of Thai origin, he was raised in Thailand, Ethiopia and Canada and educated in Chicago and New York. The artist now lives between Berlin, New York, and Thailand. His work has been exhibited around the world in major museums, galleries and international art events including being co-curator of ‘Utopia Station’ at the Venice Biennale in 2003. Tiravanija's work had been in solo exhibitions such as solo Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kessel, Germany (2009), MOCA Miami, Florida( 2008), Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2005),Serpentine Gallery, London (2005), and The Museum of Modern Art, New York (1997). And notable group exhibitions such as, the Sharjah Biennial 8, United Arab Emirates (2007), Whitney Biennial 2006, Day for Night, New York (2005) and 50th Venice Biennale (2003), just to name a few. Awarded the Hugo Boss Prize by the Guggenheim Museum "in recognition of his profound contribution to contemporary art" in 2004, and in 2008 Tiravanija was an artistic director of the rock opera "The Ramakien: a Rak Opera", a contemporary performance at the Lincoln Centre Festival, New York, USA, and recently a curator for part of the current exhibition, “Imagine Peace” at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Center.

After his first sold out show, Nopsiri has created the second series of abstract teak wood sculptures under the title “Liberation”. Nopsiri's strength has propelled him into the international spotlight of contemporary recognition.

In this exhibition “Liberation”, Utai Nopsiri continues his conceptual framework and artistic working process. Instead of using technology or any electricity-related tools, the artist created each sculptural element by hand and his craftsmanship. Viewers can appreciate every detail, having been done in precision and focus.

17th Sydney Biennale (12 May – August 1, 2010): Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook, the outstanding Thai artist’s “Two Planets” is selected to be the highlight of this important event by world-renowned Artistic Director David Elliott. The work will be featured as multi screened video at Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.

In Bangkok at 100 Tonson Gallery: Utai Nopsiri will launch his second solo exhibition after the eye-opening show for domestic and international audience alike. LIBERATION will be on view for 6 weeks, starting May 6th. The opening reception will later be informed.

Hong Kong international art fair 2010 (ART HK 10) : (May 26-30, 2010) Once again, 100 Tonson is the first and only Thai gallery selected to partake in outstanding art fairs, after Dubai, Shanghai, Basel and many high profile venues, we will feature the works by top Thai artists: Chatchai Puipia and Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook at booth D05 in ART HK, along side major galleries from around the world. This is a part of “Prism” exhibition, which is the show where space emerges from disciplinary encounter (performing arts and visual arts) and the parallel narratives. With his photograph book and installation, Kornkrit Jianpinidnan’s “The House No.1” transforms 100 Tonson Gallery into a space in-between the world of Thai traditional literature and the world of reality for Pichet Klunchun to perform “Ganesh” which is not simply telling a story about his losing a tusk, but is really a reflection of what we are facing in our present society. In our world there are distortions, concealing of facts and addiction to power. Curated by Thanavi Chotpradit, the exhibition will be on view until this Sunday April 25, 2010.

Artist  Profiles:
Born 1970 in Chachoengsao and lives and works in Nakornphrathom.  Nopsiri graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Slipakorn University. Nopsiri's work is unique in that his large wooden sculptures are entirely painstakingly handcrafted without the use of electrical tools. He was lifted from obscurity after being discovered working in a tin shed-cum-studio in a bustling market just outside of Bangkok by 100 Tonson Gallery. After putting on his first solo show “ Only Appearance” Nopsiri received a great response from collectors and the art audience at large. Participated in group shows such as Beasts, Breasts & Beauty, Alliance Française Singapore 2008, and Showcase Singapore, in 2009.  He is now tipped to be one of the young up and coming artists to watch.  His awards include 3rd Prize (Sculpture), 51st National Exhibition of Art, Bangkok (2005). 2nd Prize, Krung Thai Bank Award, 52nd National Exhibition of Art, Bangkok (2006). Awards from two years of Toshiba's Brings Good Things to Life Art Competition. Entries selected for exhibit, three years of the National Exhibition of Art, Bangkok. He also took part in Art Project at the Thai Italian Art Space during 2000.

100 Tonson Gallery presents spectacular collaboration between 2 outstanding artists, Pichet Klunchun and Kornkrit Jianpinidnan, “Prism” curated by Thanavi Chotpradit.

     This is the show where space emerges from disciplinary encounter (performing arts and visual arts) and the parallel narratives. With his photograph book and installation, Kornkrit Jianpinidnan’s “The House No.1” transforms 100 Tonson Gallery into a space in-between the world of Thai traditional literature and the world of reality for Pichet Klunchun to perform “Ganesh” which is not simply telling a story about his losing a tusk, but is really a reflection of what we are facing in our present society.    In our world there are distortions, concealing of facts and addiction to power.

     Known and seen internationally, more often than in Thailand, the performance by Pichet Klunchun will be, for the first time, shown in a visual art space, right downtown in the city of Bangkok.  This will be the opportunity for Thailand-based audience to view his spectacular performance without having to travel overseas.  With prism-like, reflective stage, the audience of Ganesh will be absorbed into the stage and subsequently, partake in this performance while watching the show.

     “Ganesh”, the performance will be opened 10 rounds (approximately 1 hour each).
